2012 Pure Stock Rules

Pure stock drivers must be at least 13 years of age.  Drivers 13 – 17 years old must have a notarized release form signed by their legal guardian/parent and birth certificate on file in track office.  Passengers must be at least 13 years of age.

Notice: All components are subject to inspection and approval of Track Officials.  ALL RULES WILL BE INTERPRETED BY TRACK OFFICIALS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT RULES, CALL BEFORE BUILDING CAR.

DRIVER AND PASSENGER RESTRAINT

1. Aluminum racing seats are required; seats with rib supports are recommended. Seats must be securely mounted to chassis, not floor pan, with a minimum of four 3/8" bolts. Seat may not be positioned further back than original location.

2. Five-point safety harnesses are required. Required S.F.I. tag must be legible. Harness must be bolted to the roll cage and frame with a minimum bolt size of ½ inch bolts.

3. A window net is required on driver’s side.  Window nets are required on both sides of car if carrying a passenger.

4. All helmets must be a full face with current Snell 90 or newer sticker.  Snell SA90 & SA00 legal.

5. All drivers and passengers are required to wear a driving suit. No nomex coveralls will be allowed. Neck brace is mandatory for drivers and passengers. Driving gloves and driving shoes are required.

WEIGHT RULE

Minimum weight allowed is 3400 pounds with driver and passenger after completed race.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

BODY AND FRAME

Any American made GM or Ford metric frame passenger car, metric framed station wagon. All cars must retain stock wheelbase for make and model. Cars must retain stock body pieces, floor pan, and stock firewalls. Any rusted pieces may replace with 20-gauge steel. NO Camaros, Firebirds, and Mustangs will be allowed in this class.

1. Fenders may be cut for tire clearance. Cutting will not exceed 7 inches of the tire circumference.

2. Front inside fender wells may be removed.

3. Body sheet metal must be in place at the beginning of each race event and kept in an acceptable appearance throughout the season.

4. Doors must be welded or bolted shut.

5. All glass, fiberglass, plastic and trim must be completely removed from the car.

6. Driver and passenger door may be gutted for roll cage installation. No other gutting of car allowed.

7. Hood and trunk must be secured with hood pins at all times. No holes allowed in hood except for hood pinholes.

8. All openings in car that could propose a safety hazard to the driver must be sealed shut at all times.

9. Body may not be altered from its OEM appearance and must remain in stock location. No roof raking.

10. Driver floorboard plate must be at least 1/8” metal and extend forward to protect legs & feet from objects that may come through the floorboard. If carrying a passenger. Passenger floorboard plate must be at least 1/8” metal and extend forward to protect legs & feet from objects that may come through the floorboard.

ROLL CAGE

1. Roll cage must be constructed of no less than 1.5" x .095" steel tubing. Main roll cage and halo must be a minimum of 1" above driver’s head. A minimum of 3 drivers door bars are required and a minimum of 2 passenger door bars are required unless a passenger is present, in which there must be a minimum of 3 door bars. All roll cage welds must be complete.

2. Floor pan may be cut for roll cage installation clearance only.

3. X bracing under the driver (frame to frame) and sub frame connectors are permitted. This will help to insure chassis structural integrity.

4. A minimum of 3 vertical windshield bars are required in front of driver with a minimum of 3/8” O.D. solid bar. Windshield bars must be added to passenger side if a passenger is present.

5. Driver must be in stock OEM seating location; passenger seat must also be in stock location.

6. Accelerator return pedal recommended.

NERF BARS

A single nerf bar is allowed on each side. Maximum size 1.5” x .095”. May be attached to main cage only at the front and rear section of the nerf bar. This means only two (2) attachment points are allowed. No open tubing allowed. Tubing must be capped or rounded with no sharp edges. No nerf bars are allowed on the rear outside quarter panel area. Nerf bars may not extend outside of tires.

BUMPERS

Bumpers are required.  Fabricated bumper or OEM bumper allowed.   Bumper loops are also required in front and rear to protect the radiator and fuel cell and allow easy access by wrecker.  The tubing will not exceed .095 x 1 ½ O.D. with a maximum height of 6 inches tall and not wider than the frame.

ENGINE

Inspection plug is required.

A one-inch Inspection plug needs to be on the driver’s side between the 2nd and 3rd bolt hole in oil pan. MOR-23970 part number for Day Motor Sports. No obstructions to crank or rods. If obstructions are present, must remove pan for inspection.

Compression Rule: 160 PSI cranking compression, 5 hits on starter

1. Any straight or V-6 cylinder or V-8 engine with a maximum 364 cubic inch engine must remain in stock location. Stock motor mounts or solid motor mounts allowed and must be bolted into stock location. Flattop or dish pistons only, must be cast, no forged pistons.  Stock 4-valve relief piston only.

2. Cylinder heads must be stock of year, make and model. No closed or partially closed chambered heads. No vortec heads. Maximum 1.94 intake valves and 1.50 exhaust valve. Heads may be flat milled for surfacing reasons only. No angle milling. Studs may be pinned or screwed. Casting # must remain in heads. No interior deburring or grinding allowed.Screw in studs and guide plates ok.

3. Cast iron intake manifolds only. No bowtie, marine, or high-rise intakes. No aluminum intakes (even if OEM for year, make and model came with an aluminum intake.) No deburring or grinding allowed. No internal modifications of any intake permitted.

4. Any brand, style or size air cleaner is allowed,

5. After-market valve cover with breather tubes may be used.

7.  Engine must hold 15 inches of vacuum at 1000 RPM.

6. Exhaust manifolds must be stock cast iron only. No corvette style ((2.5" port exhaust) stock manifolds. No porting, polishing, acid treatment or coatings. Exhaust pipes must extend past driver's compartment.

CARBURETOR

350 CFM Holly P#-0-7448 or Rebuilt #657448, Q-jet 4BBL or Rochester 2 barrels. Holly rebuild kits are allowed with no modifications.  Removal of the choke flap is the only modification allowed. Ram air or forced induction WILL NOT be allowed.  One-inch maximum spacer allowed when being used as adaptor.  No spacer with 4BBL. Also 4412 Holly cam 2 barrel with no modifications will be allowed.

ELECTRICAL

1. All cars must have an ignition switch clearly labeled.

2. The car must also have a battery disconnect switch located outside the car and easy accessible to emergency personnel. If the car is equipped with a working alternator the switch must disable alternator as well.

3. Only 1 twelve-volt battery is allowed. Battery and box must be securely mounted and enclosed if in driver's compartment or trunk.

4. Distributor must be stock OEM parts. No aftermarket coils or modules. Stock OEM replacement parts only.

RADIATOR

Only one radiator is permitted in stock location. Aluminum radiator allowed. Protective loop allowed no taller than radiator and no wider than frame.

FUEL PUMP

Fuel pump must be stock. Fuel pump may not be electric.

FUEL CELL AND FUEL

Fuel cell must be securely mounted in trunk of car between frame rails. A protective loop around fuel cell is mandatory. All cars must have a metal fuel cell with maximum capacity of 22 gallons. All fuel cells must have a rollover valve.  Gasoline without additives and racing fuel allowed.

SUSPENSION

Suspension parts must remain stock for year, make and model. No modification to any suspension components. No adjustable or non-adjustable spring spacers. Aftermarket stock appearing racing springs (steel only) allowed on front and rear. Leaf springs may use lowering blocks. No racing shocks.  A-Arm bushing may be replaced with stock style OEM type only.Springs mush have double pigtail.

STEERING

Must use stock OEM steering for year, make and model. May use aftermarket steering shaft and quick release steering wheel disconnect. Quick steering allowed.

TRANSMISSION

Any stock transmission. All torque converters must be 12 inches with no modifications. All forward gears must be in working order on all transmissions, with a neutral and working reverse. No over-drive transmissions. All standard transmissions must be OEM stock with all forward gears and reverse in working order, and a minimum 10.5-inch clutch, pressure plate, and a full size stock fly wheel. Standard transmissions must have a ¼ inch steel plate covering the bell housing 180° over the sides and top of clutch assembly or a blow proof bell housing. No aluminum or lightweight flywheels. No 4, 5, or 6 speed standard transmissions, no overdrives. Must be self-starting. Transmission cooler OK but must be out of drivers compartment or shielded to protect driver.

TRANSMISSION TECH TIP:  With engine at idle, and brake applied, transmission must accept shift from “neutral” gear to “reverse” gear, and from “neutral” gear to “low” gear, without causing engine to stall. Race car must remain stationary during such shifting and testing.

DRIVESHAFT

All drive shafts must be steel and painted white with car number. Drive shaft must have a safety loop within 6 inches of the front u-joint. No chain loops allowed.

REAR END

Rear end must be stock OEM for make and year of car. Any gear ratio is allowed as long as the housing doesn't have to be altered. Rear end must be locked.  Rear end must be welded unless mini spool is used. Disc brakes on rear

BRAKES

Stock pedal or stock OEM master cylinders required. Car must have a minimum of 3 wheel brakes in working order at all times. Four (4) wheel brakes are recommended. For safety purposes, rear disc brakes are mandatory. Rear disc brakes must have steel components only and only a single piston caliper allowed. Rear disc brakes will prevent axles from exiting the housing and may prevent rollovers and damage to other racers.

TIRES

Any tire on 8" rim.  

WHEELS

1. Any 8 inch steel wheel permitted. Wheel minimum weight is 22 lbs. No lightweight wheels permitted.

2. 5/8” studs recommended and 1-inch lug nuts are required.

3. Only right rear bead lock allowed.

4. Wheels spacers allowed with maximum 1-inch

SCORING

Numbers on cars must be located on both doors, the roof, and on the back. They must be in a color, which contrasts with the color of the car. Numbers on the doors must be 24” tall and 4” wide. Numbers on the roof must be 28” tall and positioned to be read from the passenger side. Numbers on the back must be 6” for the following driver to be able to read. Numbers must be easily read by scorekeepers to insure proper placing.
